The Ignition extension is then connected between the ignition coil boot and the spark plug. An inductive clamp can also be placed over the HV ignition lead extension to test the ignition system or connect a taco or ignition timing light, even the oscilloscope.

If the spark has an abnormal shape or curved arc, this is an indication that an internal leakage is present or the coil has aged. It is a rapidly, safely, accurately, and conveniently way to judge the quality of ignition system according to the spark color and distance. The factory can choose the appropriate coil depends on engine and ignition system and adjust the different gaps of this tester.
